We would like to dedicate this week’s post to Roger Pickard, who sadly passed away at the end of last year. He was one of our first contributors of data and instrumental in building up our UK base of participants. As director of the Variable Star Section of the British Astronomical Association he tirelessly advertised our project to the Amateur Astronomy community for many years.

I only met Roger on a few occasions, but I am hugely grateful for having had the chance to know him. However, others will be much better placed to comment on his many achievements and contributions to the advancements of astronomy and variable star research in a much wider context than just our project. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family. He will be sorely missed.
