This week we have a look at one if the latest images that has been submitted. It is the southern half of the NGC2264 target region, where the Cone Nebula is situated.
We show the colour combination if a B, V, and I-band image taken with the 2m telescope at the Thuringian State Observatory. We monitor all accessible HOYS target regions every few months in the U, B, V, R, I, Halpha filter set to study the long term behaviour of the fainter sources in our fields in all filters. These are usually not accessible by the majority of our participating telescopes. In particular at the shorter wavelength, where the young stars are very faint.
In the image it is very obvious that most of the fainter stars appear extremely red. This is caused by extinction, which increases the colour of the stars, making them very faint at bluer colours. The images also shows that the old friend of the project, KH15D, is in a bright state. We might look at the latest light curve of it in one of the next posts.
