We remain with images of HOYS target regions this week. Usually we create colour composites but this time we show a false colour representation of a deep I-band wide-field image taken of the NGC1333 cluster.

The young stars we investigate are all situated near the central reflection nebula in the middle of the image. However, there is also a much wider population of younger objects distributed quite widely across the entire field. These stars are part of a slightly older population of stars, compared to the one million year old central cluster.

The image nicely shows what is going on in the surroundings of the cluster. We can see a large number of filaments and other structures, which are all part of the much wider star formation activity in Perseus. Note that the target IC348 is only about 3.5 degrees away from this field.
