This week we look at the light curve of the young star V1787Ori in the L1641N target region. We have looked at parts of the light curve for this object several times, for example in weeks 98, 201, 202, and 276. In the above plot we show the V, R, and I-band data of the object during the last observing season.

Note that the magnitudes in the plot are shifted so that they appear closer together for better visibility. There are a number of outlier data points which need to be removed for a detailed analysis. The typical day to day scatter is of the order of 0.1mag, in other words about ten percent. These variations are usually corelated between filters, thus are not noise in the data.

On longer timescales, the object almost shows a sinusoidal behaviour with changes of up to a quarter magnitude. This is quite different to what we have seen in the past. It emphasises the ever changing nature of the light curves from these young stars. It makes it worth while to keep imaging these source to study longer fractions of their light curves at high cadence, which will reveal more about the details of their evolution.
