This week we look at the light curve of the young star V1492Cyg in the Pelican Nebula. The data shown in the above plot are about 200 days from last summer in the R and I-Band, with the R-Band data slightly off-set for better visibility.

We can see that the object shows a dipper behaviour, i.e. repeated, irregular, and short dimming events that are up to one magnitude deep. There is no apparent obvious (repeating) pattern to these, but one can only be sure once a full analysis of these over a longer timeframe (many years) is done.

The short duration combined with the deep eclipses means that we are seeing compact, dense structures in the inner accretion disk that move in and out of the line of sight to the star. These allow us to probe the small scale structure in the disk at great resolution.
