This week the image above is of the HOYS server homepage. So why is this exciting?
Well, as you know we have been working in the background to restructure the database itself for much quicker data access, future proofing it, and to allow everyone access to the full data set, not just the last few years. In addition, our server is now 10 years old and all the software is hence also outdated. We have now managed to install all the latest software needed for the website on our new virtual machine. It has then taken an afternoon to rewrite the code for the website to display the startup page. There were a large number of changes needed. That is the first step in moving over to the new server.
Next we need to fix the website and processing code for each of the individual pages. There will be plenty and we need to test it properly. But hopefully this won’t take too long – always subject to time being available for it 😉 We will report back when we are closer to swapping to the new server.
